TikTok engagement rate calculator
Calculate a TikTok video’s engagement rate from views, the way TikTok creators and brands usually measure it.
How to read a view-based rate
This calculator divides by views, not followers, so a follower-tier table would point at the wrong base. On TikTok, a mid-single-digit rate by views is the rough orientation this site uses. Compare the number with your own last 10 to 20 videos.
TikTok engagement rate by views vs by followers
Two TikTok engagement rates circulate: one per video, divided by views, and one per account, divided by followers. They can be far apart. With the defaults, a video with 4,000 likes, 120 comments, 300 shares and 450 saves has 4,870 interactions; on 60,000 views that is 8.12%, but on an account with 12,500 followers the same interactions would read as 38.96%.
The by-followers figure looks impressive and means little, because most of those 60,000 viewers do not follow the account. If you see a TikTok engagement rate above 20 or 30%, check whether it was divided by followers. By views is the version most brands and TikTok creators use when they talk about a single video.
The calculator also shows the like rate (6.67% with the defaults) and shares plus saves per 1,000 views (12.5). Shares and saves are worth watching on their own: a video that people send to friends or keep for later tends to keep getting shown, even if its like count is ordinary.
Like rate on its own is the easiest number to compare, because anyone can see the count: 4,000 likes on 60,000 views is 6.67%. Comments are a much smaller share of interactions on most videos, so watch them as a separate count. A video that asks viewers a direct question can raise comments without changing the like rate much.
For an account average, take the rate of each of your last 10 to 20 videos and use the median rather than the mean. One viral video can pull the mean up a long way: five videos at 6%, 7%, 8%, 9% and 30% have a mean of 12% but a median of 8%, and 8% is the better guide to your next video.
Engagement rate does not capture watch time, which TikTok Studio reports separately as average watch time and the share of viewers who watched the full video. When you pitch brands, send average views, engagement rate by views and your top audience countries together.
| Divide by | Value | Engagement rate |
|---|---|---|
| Views | 60,000 | 8.12% |
| Unique viewers reached | 45,000 | 10.82% |
| Followers | 12,500 | 38.96% |
How it works
On TikTok, reach comes mostly from the For You feed rather than followers, so engagement is usually measured against views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100.
Shares and saves are strong signals that a video is worth pushing further; track them separately from likes.
For an account-level number, average the rate over your last 10 to 20 videos.
Questions
Why use views and not followers?
Most TikTok views come from people who do not follow you, so followers would overstate or understate engagement. Views reflect who actually saw the video.
What is a good TikTok engagement rate?
It varies by niche and video type. Compare with your own recent videos and similar creators rather than a universal benchmark.
Do saves count as engagement on TikTok?
Most calculators, including this one, count saves along with likes, comments and shares. Some older formulas leave saves out, which gives a lower rate, so say which version you used when you compare.
Where do I find shares and saves for a TikTok video?
Saves appear as the bookmark count on the video, and both shares and saves are listed in the video’s analytics in TikTok Studio, alongside views and watch time.
Why does a video with fewer views have a higher engagement rate?
A video with modest views is mostly seen by followers and people close to your niche, who interact more. When TikTok pushes a video to a wider For You audience, more casual viewers see it and the rate usually falls.
Does engagement rate affect TikTok Creator Rewards?
Rewards are paid on qualified views and an RPM. TikTok has said factors such as engagement and watch time can influence what a video earns, but it does not publish a formula, so treat engagement as one input among several.
Can I compare TikTok engagement rate with Instagram?
Only if both are calculated on the same base. TikTok rates are usually divided by views, while Instagram rates are often divided by followers. Compare a TikTok video with an Instagram Reel, both by views, for a fair result.
